Hello! I am Calvin Wen, a Year 1 undergraduate majoring in Mechanical Engineering (Aeronautical Engineering), with a 2nd major in iDP, and I am excited to learn from the NUS and E-Scholars community.

I am still trying to find my passion and place in STEM. This search has led me to participate in various internships over the years in my pre-university education, allowing me to work with machine learning algorithms, such as Convolutional Neural Networks for image processing, and Natural Language Processing for sentiment analysis, and mono-copters, broadening my horizons to the potential of innovative work.

I have recently started a side hustle in the form of day trading. I have yet to master the skill, but I find it to be an excellent (and painful, once you start losing constantly) way to train emotional discipline.

My pastime is playing the 笛子 (Chinese flute). I find playing music really fun and relaxing, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to perform overseas (in China and Malaysia) as part of my alma mater’s orchestra. I also like to trek in natural environments. Being away from the urban area feels therapeutic, helps me to find peace and relieves stress.
